gasakay tag habal-habal
The first thing i did after i opened his mail was inform my hubby, Glester that i finally received his the poet's permission which at first i was really doubtful if he would reply as i know he is very busy, but my to my honor and delight he had given me his permission.
I first fell in love with the poem Pansit (text follows) when i was tasked to teach Philippine LIterature sometime in the 2003. Upon reading the poem, i decided whatever is described in the poem will never happen to the family i will one day create. With the poem, my conviction to have a loving and supportive family as my immediate family had grown stronger. Read with me and i am sure, the poem will touch your deepest being the way it did mine.
Pansit
Mahadlok ko sauna
kung gutomon si Papa, Ma.
Dili na siya mokaon.
Ang platong gisudlan nimo
sa sud-an mokalit lag hagtok
sa imong bagulbagol.
Ug sama kaguba
sa karaan natong banggira
ang mga balikas ni Papa:
“Litse! Atay! Yawa!
Wa ka bay laing ipakaon nako
Kung di puros lang pansit?”
Lab-as pa kaayo kanako
hangtod karon, Ma,
ang repolyong sagol sa pansit.
Nahinumdom pa ko
sa ka humot sa hebe
ug tambok sa ginisang baboy
nga nanab-it sa imong buhok.
Diin sa nagkamantika
nimong danguyngoy
gipuga sa atong bentana
ang lemonsitong buwan.
the above poem is indeed a picture of misery for some wives and even children. but what is great is that it inspires readers like me to work better to be a loving person who loves herself as well. if men who hurt their wives would only read this, they would know, women are meant to be love and to be a co-worker and not a receiver of pain and agony.
the next poem is Balaki ko, day, samtang gasakay tag habalhabal. i first heard it when Sir Tibo of the MSU-IIT IPAG had visited CMU. from then, i decided, i should have a copy of that poem! they read it to us, the audience and my! it was beautiful beyond compare! Being a Tagalog, i never knew i'd fall in love this deep with Cebuano poetry... though of course i am grasping on the language yet, but tell you, the learning is really great and fun!
Balaki ko, day, samtang
gasakay tag habal-habal
Balaki ko, day,
Samtang gasakay tag habal-habal.
Idat-ol og samot
Kanang imong dughan
Ngari sa akong bukobuko
Aron mas mabatyag ko
Ang hinagubtob
Sa imong kasingkasing.
Sa mga libaong nga malabyan,
Gaksa ko paghugot
Sama sa lastikong
Mipungpong sa imong buhok.
Sa kainit sa imong ginhawa,
Gitika kining tingkoy.
Ang mga balili unya
Nga nanghalok sa atong batiis
Isipon tang mga dila.
Dayon samtang nagkatulin
Kining atong dagan,
Mamiyong tag manghangad
Ngadto sa kawanangan
Aron sugaton ang taligsik
Sa uwan, dahon, bulak.
the poem is indeed very rich in imagery, wont you agree? :)
Apart from the updated copy he had given me, i am very honored to be given his blog link by the Poet himself. I am inviting you all to visit with me the link that follows.

It would lead us all to Mr. Adonis Durado's blogspot. I am so happy with the experience that i can't help but be proud. Surely, tonight's one of the best nights i even had as a Philippine Literature fan! :)
Mabuhay ang and panitikan ng Pilipinas!
Daghang Salamat, Sir Adonis Durado! Dako gayud ang akong kalipay sa imong pagsugot nga i-post nako ang imong mga balak.
