Literature has played an important role in the shaping of the nation’s culture and ideology. Michael Mack maintains that we are accustomed to thinking of literature as mimetic, as a representation of reality such as it exists, while literature is in fact, according to him, a disruptive force, breaking up our fictions about the world we live in and showing us new possibilities for the future. For example, literature has the capacity to change our thinking about ageing by undermining the opposition between birth and ageing. Literature also change the way we think. It attempts to illuminate literature's ethics of resilience by re-conceptualising our understanding of representation. Literature not only represents to us our world but it also shows us ways in which we can change the world or adapt to changes which have already taken place without our realization. Literature's cognitive dimension helps us cope with the current as well as future challenges by changing the way we think about ourselves, our society and those who are excluded from or marginalized within our society.
In the side of poetry, there are poems that have, literally, changed my life, because they have changed the way I looked at and listened to the world; there are poems that, on repeated reading, have gradually revealed to me areas of my own experience that, for reasons both personal and societal, I had lost sight of; and there are poems that I have read over and over again, knowing they contained some secret knowledge that I had yet to discover, but refused to give up on. So, at the most basic level, poetry is important because it makes us think, it opens us up to wonder and the sometimes astonishing possibilities of language. It is, in its subtle yet powerful way, a discipline for re-engaging with a world we take too much for granted. In whatever form or a language the poetry is written, poetry is after all poetry with an objective of consoling, encompassing a great power and delighted me, as a reader while heightening an awareness of various situations and discussing the aspects of life. It leads me to understand and interpret what has been written, with what objective so that the purpose of a poem or specific verses may be served well.
Poetry can take the most extreme emotions and bottle them like tinctures that can be used to heal the reader; it is expression- giving a voice to that which we need as human beings to express, that gives poetry its strong influence. As a student, I look for poetry that tells a dynamic story- one that the reader will undoubtedly walk away thinking about long after they've read it.
To sum this up, some literature inspires emotion. Love poems are a timeless way for people to express romantic, platonic, maternal and other forms of love. Literature about social injustice inspires anger and encourages action for change. Religious literature helps people find and nurture faith. All literature helps people expand their minds. Literature also affects people by offering them a way to express themselves through writing and reading.

Poetry is a breathing art. It transcends from paper to life, retelling people’s stories. What motivates and inspires them. It is yet the perfect representation of what literature is.
Poetry has affected my mood for leisure. It shifted my writing habit since I became interested into the work of young contemporary poets such as Lang Leav, Sarah Kaye, Michael Faudet, and the likes. Their type of poetry influenced my style of writing. Furthermore, it had let me express myself and be able to create a feeling outside of it, making pieces relating to what other feel or what I wanted to feel. It has given me the chance to enjoy the freedom and uniqueness of thoughts. Poetry had also broaden my attention for words. In poetry, each word has its stance that makes the whole piece aesthetic, powerful, and influential. It had taught me to not take any word for granted. It has also influenced the way I think and perceive things. Reading a lot of pieces from different authors contributed to my cognitive skill and decision making. Although these lessons are varied, nevertheless it had helped. Last but not least, poetry made me realize to be logical with what I write. Since this is considered as the highest form of literature, every word should be carefully selected and justified. We cannot put just any word as we like.
The role of poetry as an English major is both a privilege and a responsibility because we are intended to carry out how poetry should stand in the society. That is to say, we should be an edge ahead and should be knowledgeable enough to this type of literature. Although the learning process is arduous and would always be as it is, the outcome is always worthwhile. We fell in love with poetry more as we go through scrutinizing every detail of it. That is its eternal beauty.

Poetry is a written form of literature where people expresses their feelings like hatred, happiness, sadness and even sorrow into words. Poetry is also a form of literature where people can learn, improve and change themselves as writers and readers.
As an English major student, poetry has a big role in my life. It changed my perspective in dealing different kinds of poem. Back in my high school days, poetry became one of the hardest subjects I have encountered because there are lot of things to consider in a poem. Its figurative language, rhythm, word choice and it is really hard to know the true meaning that lies on it and I really do not know how to analyze a poem before. But today, because of reading a lot of poems and even studying it helps me improve my vocabulary skills, my ability in writing, and my ability to comprehend the meaning of the poem. In terms of my vocabulary learning, poetry helped me to learn new words especially the hard ones because some of the poems have difficult words and I have to research about the meaning of the word. Poetry is not only helpful in my critical thinking but gives me a way to express the hidden emotions I felt. I was able to write down all the happenings of my life, the good things and even the bad ones because in the past I am really shy and I usually hide and keep it for myself. Poetry also gives me a better understanding about life. It gives messages that deepens my senses that there are always bad and good things and at the same time it inspires and motivates me.
Although poems are hard to comprehend and analyze it also has a great influence in enhancing our skills specifically our vocabulary. It helps us to think deeper and reflect the messages that the poems are trying to imply.

Understanding Poetry

Poetry is one of the forms of literature. It has distinct factor of having rhythm, stanzas and figurative languages. But poetry does not stop there, it carries thoughts and depths of human character. Some consider poetry as a means of venting their emotions, some read poetry to be inspired and also be hurt. However, for some, poetry is their life.
Poetry is a huge deal in my life. It has an impact that speaks to me. It is more than just giving knowledge, it is more than feeling the emotions engraved within the text but, it is the expression of truth that touches people’s heart. In fact, the course of learning poetry builds up my consciousness about people, environment, death, love, heartbreak and above all, life. Through the language that authors convey on their work, you can see the transparent certainty that they wanted to give and to be felt by the readers. So, every poem I made or every poem I read, I consider them as precious because it came from the deepest ideas molded by feelings and beautified by crispness of words, rhythm and figurative languages. The novelty of a certain poem affects almost everything in me- my behavior towards people that I have to understand that everything has its reasons and in general, my perspective in life.
It is true that poetry is one difficult thing although they correlate it with being mundane. But poetry is beautiful for me because its originality is coming from emotions felt by people. Though people find it hard to decipher, these things are just the little conflict on poetry, as long as the poem speaks to the heart of the reader, then is beautiful. And that is never mundane at all.

Literature can be many of forms. Poetry is one of those forms. Reading poems is like listening to songs. Poetry affects how I feel. It boosts the emotions that surges through me. If I’m happy, I am extremely happy, if I’m sad, I’m down in the dumps, if I’m motivated and inspired, I’m very eloquent in giving off advice and support. I had been into some works of both contemporary and classic poems. I am more into classic novels, I have read Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina and War and Peace. Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mocking Bird and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice are probably my favorite novels. It does not only give me the pleasure of leisure but it also boosts my knowledge about literature itself. It made me understand why the author wrote this and who is it for. Poetry helps me express what I could not say in plain words. I wanted to convey what I feel beautifully and through poetry it is achieved. If I wanted to love, I wanted it to be conveyed through the most passionate way I know, if I wanted to show my anger and hate, I wanted to show it beautifully and aesthetically.

Poetry aside from conveying emotions from paper, it is also a way to nourish our knowledge about culture and help us know what the society. Literature helps people in ways that most of us could not imagine, for instance, love poems are a timeless way for people to express romantic, platonic, maternal and other forms of love. Literature about social injustice inspires anger and encourages action for change. Religious literature helps people find and nurture faith. All literature helps people expand their minds. Literature also affects people by offering them a way to express themselves through writing and reading. According to The Guardian, reading for therapy is an age-old practice now known as "bibliotherapy."

Literature reflects the reality of our society; it leaves a deep meaning behind each and every piece. Emotions bind the society it is the central part of how we built our relationship to every individual. Poetry helps us understand and make it easier to let people know how they feel.

According to poetry.org, Poetry is an art form in which human language is used for its aesthetic qualities in addition to, or instead of, its notional and semantic content. It is very deep and complicated. It may be hard to comprehend but that is the magic of Poetry. You get to read it many times to be able to give you the revelation of its beautiful meaning. Aside from the beauty of its words, poetry gives you emotions that make it very alive.

Growing up, I have already loved writing. I love writing on my notebook of how my day went, or writing short stories whenever I’m bored. But I never liked writing poems. I hated reciting and reading them either when I was young because for me, they are hard to comprehend until up to this day. But never did I imagine that it would play a part of what I am today. It started when I had to make one poem for our final exam. I have tried assignments in making poems but that was different because we are asked to perform it as well. Then after that, I kind of liked it already. Then I got opportunities on writing many more and reciting all of them with my friends. It’s funny that before I hated reciting them but now I’m okay performing poems on stage. Poetry changed me. Now, it affects my life since it is my way of expressing what I feel. I write poems out of my frustrations, my heartaches and even my happiness. Poetry has become my way of expressing myself. It became my best friend. I write in my notebook or even on my phone and I don’t quite share it to people. I mostly write in Tagalog since that’s the language I am most comfortable of. It’s just funny that whenever I needed a poem the most, that’s the time when I can’t write. However, in reading poems, I still find it hard to comprehend, really. But I discovered that poetry needs to be read many times to discover the meaning and that what makes it special. Now, during in my past time, I open my Facebook and check pages like Lang Leav’s, Scream Poems and etc. to read because it now entertains me.

When I look back, I compare my life before to what my life is now. I can really say that I have changed. I have improved a lot. I’m not saying that the poems I make are very good. I learned not to care if they are good or not, I just write because I want to express what I am feeling. It somehow made me brave. That’s how powerful poetry is to my life.

Understanding Poetry

According to poets.org/reference. com .Poetry is one of the most universal vehicles of human expression, and it is one of the most important of all written media in writing experiences.Poetry is like an outlet of emotion for many people, we think that as we write and read more, poetically, we become more open to new ideas, new point of views from different people.

Poetry has affected me in many good ways. I realky love writing essays and poems, but I know to myself that I am not good enough I just love writing. It always been a place for me to express my thoughts without the judgment of others, because when I a had I problem I find myself comfortable in writing poems. Paper seems listen a little better than people do at times, writing poetry is the best thing I can do with my time because when I have words to say or wanted to be express I write it most of the time. Poetry allows me to smile and think straight, every time I finished writing a poem there is something inside me that I felt relieved. I find it a very satisfying form of expression, It helps me understand myself and the things that is happening around me.

Poetry somehow help me change my perception about things . it helps me to be no longer be stranger for who I am anymore. I am a moody person and sometimes when I am not feeling better writing poems is the only way that can keep myself calm. It has been a form of therapy for me, in dealing with depression, heartache, love and pain, it is the way to express the thoughts and emotions that overwhelm me from within . It give me personal satisfaction and it helps me through rough times and good. Poetry expanded my horizons and helped me grow as a person and in other ways. Poetry affects me in the way that can put my emotion into words and burned away to lessen the pain, it help me motivate myself to develop my writing skills in playing words. Poetry is one of the best thing that literature had, because it shapes the personality of a person inside and outside.

Leonardo da Vinci once remarked, "Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen." but if poetry can be felt, how can it affect our lives? In what way does it affect our everyday living? What is its role in shaping someone's life? Well, these are the questions that are flying in my mind and the questions that I am eager to know and find the answers.
Poetry influences and affected me in many ways not just as an AB-English student but as a human being. Through poetry, my beliefs and insights in life are changed by simply telling me the things that I do not know yet and the things that I need to know. It affected my life by changing my standing to a certain thing through learning a lot to the stories and poems that I have read from novels and books. Back then, I am not really fond of reading and writing stories and poems because I believe that it is just a waste of time but when I started to let myself be engaged in these things, I have realized that poetry is not that boring and not a waste of time for it gives me happiness and contentment. For me, poetry is a tool to express my emotions and feelings to someone and to something. It can give more color and meaning to a meaningless and boring life. It can also be a form of leisure in my free time and can let me travel around the world by the different stories from different places that I tend to read. There are also some poems that literally changed and affected my life because they have changed the way I looked and listened to the world and there are also poems that gradually revealed some areas of my own experiences and my own imperfections and most importantly, poetry affected the way I behave in society and the way I view my life and the life of other people. Through it, I have learned to deal with them in the most proper and acceptable way.
Thus, poetry is very important in every individual and opens us up to wonder and realizations. It builds and shapes our lives in many great ways that we do not know and as what Gander (2015) said, "Poetry is a central of more than anything. It is a work through which we invent our humanity."

I used to think that people are just torn between two major emotions—sadness and happiness; I used to see the world in just mere black and white. Things seem to be so normal for me back then, however, poetry made me felt a different kind of emotions and that made a massive effect on me which I never thought was possible.

I was a late bloomer because I thought poetry is impossible for me but one day, I read one of my classmate’s pieces and I really thought that there was something about it, deeper than what I had read. I was amused. That kind of feeling was new to me and I can still remember how it felt. I never thought that an eight line stanza can make me think deeply about life. I grew confused and at the same time, it was also an inspiration for me to try and write.

Poetry then became my personal outlet where all sorts of emotions were being written instead of being said. It has been my own form of self-therapy in terms of dealing deep sadness, joy, anger, pain, love, etc. However, there is a downside (maybe not to others) to this form of literature. I am fond of reading dark poetry and the feeling of reading one always pulls me into an abyss of wonder and wander that sometimes, it is so hard for me to pull myself up.

Nevertheless, I could not imagine myself and even the world without poetry. Now, I can no longer see a chair as an ordinary chair and a table as an ordinary table. Poetry made me see things differently. In addition, the most unique feature of any literary forms not only in poetry is that, you may forget the words written but you will not forget the feeling that you felt while reading it and perhaps that is how, generally, literature affects us.

“The Kind of Perspective in Life Poetry Gave Me”

Just like any other piece of art, poetry is just as beautiful as it is. If you let it live inside you, you will see how it will affect the way you see things.
Poetry positively and negatively affects my life in many aspects. When I was young I used to write simple poems about everyday situations like the tiresome of waking up early to go to school, how I felt about my bully classmates, and how I felt about being scold. Poetry had been an escape for the young-minded girl I had been way back then. When I was in high school I began hating poetry because our literature teacher always asks us to write a poem every now and then; from free verse to haiku to monologue and then to concrete poems. She would always rate our performances through delivering the poem we keep on making for one straight grading period. Back then I keep on hating every single poem assigned for us to make because I no longer felt the way I used to feel when I was in elementary, the feeling when you write poems because you love to but now, I feel like it is mandatory and so I began hating it. From then on, I forgot how poetry had helped me escape all the bad things that came my way. Years passed and I am now in college taking up Languages and Literature course and as expected, I met my old friend- poetry. I was again exposed to poetry because of our development reading class where we have to make our own poems for the Finals culmination. For the first time in a long time I was again asked to write and recite my own poem. Upon writing, I expected myself to just write it for the sake of reciting it in class and passing the subject but turned out, the old flame that once lost its light in my heart had begun to produce spark little by little. As I was writing, I felt the feeling I had when I was young upon putting down words in a single piece of paper. I began to love it again. The thing is, I realized that when you come back to what you once loved doing, that strange yet satisfying feeling will always come back to you. It feels like I came back to those times when I ran home from school soaking wet from rain but I was happy. It felt like I came back to those times when I make my enemies and the ones who bully me as a monster in my own definition of poem (back then). The feeling is strange, and consuming, funny and satisfying. Writing poetry again gave me millions of mixed emotions because it always feels like coming back to the painful yet good, old days. Right now, I am taking up a Poetry subject which helps me enrich my imaginations. It helps me open up my window and widen my horizons to everything. It exposes me to different culture, to the different perspective of life of different people. All the more it made me see the beauty of a leaf falling from a tree despite the sadness of the connotative definition it gives. Poetry made me see the beauty despite ugliness, the happiness in mourning and grace in waiting. In each poem, poetry makes me see clearer view of life, again and again.
Time and again, poetry will always have a special place in my heart. I may have lost that space once, but this feeling that had come back for quite a long time will surely remain till it gave its last beat because as for me, for now, or for surely during my entire lifetime, until there is poetry, I will always be seeing life positively and full of beauty.

Poetry is an expression of the soul. It is a form of literature that can never be vanish. When one utters poetry, one thinks of eternity. Poetry exceeds through time, through ages, and through different ways of life.

According to Edgar Allan Poe, “Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words.”, and this holds true for every young aspiring poet like me. They say poetry is useless. It does not help shape the society. It does not help the needy. It has nothing to do with poverty and crime. Some may even ask, “Why study poetry?”, because for them it is useless. Well, not for me. As a major of English Language and Literature the love of poetry has always been embedded in me. I have always been a voracious reader and an aspiring writer. Poems are the focus of my writing. I write poems in Filipino, Cebuano, and English. I also showcase them through the craft called Spoken Word Poetry. This has become my passion. A passion in which I never thought I would do. Poetry gave me so much to absorb. It gave me a view to different kinds of worlds. Much of my poetry pieces are influenced by other people’s experiences. People who wanted to be written, to be heard. I write for their broken hearts, for their success, for their love interests, for their dominant feelings. I listen to them as they share their heartfelt experiences. This makes me feel gratified. This has been one of the impacts of poetry to me. It gives new doors to new friendships and experiences. Most of all, it is giving me a life.

Poetry is never useless. Maybe for other people who has not seen its worth and felt its power it can be, but never for me. Its beauty is timeless, eternal, endless. It will forever be a passion I will pursue no matter how hard and rigid the process it may be.

According to Audre Lorde, “Poetry is not only dream and vision. It is the skeleton architecture of our lives. It lays the foundation for our future of change, a bridge across our fears of what has never been before” Poetry is just like a painting puzzle, it is hard to locate, comprehend and analyze. But, after you solve it will give you the beautiful meaning of it.
Poetry affected me in many ways. While growing up, I learned to love writing. I write poems and essays when I’m in the mood. Basically, writing poems and essays helps me overcome my stress at the same time it gives me a leisure time. But, sometimes I’m afraid to write poems and essays by being criticize by others. Poetry influences me not just being an AB English student but as a human being. In poetry, it affects me how I feel when there are times I feel down, hopeless, even in joyful and delighted times, it helps me express my feelings by simply writing it down in a piece of paper. Even though, I’m not that good in writing poems and essays yet I am trying my best to express my feelings and gratitude’s towards the experiences that I encountered. Also, reading some piece of the great poets changed my life, because they have changed the way I looked at and listened to the world that there are poems which are gradually revealed my own experiences both personal and societal. Poetry is important because it makes me think deeper as well as it widens my knowledge. There are also things that cannot be seen in our naked eyes but can be felt by the use of poetry and its effectiveness in capturing one’s feeling.
Consequently, poetry is the most powerful and trans-formative forms of arts. It is the power to bring things together, to unify experiences and to express it in captivating emotions and molded one’s life. Absolutely, poetry affected me in many ways.

Poetry is a quality of beauty and intensity of emotion as defined by Oxford Dictionary. Indeed, it is an art of beauty that expresses feelings and ideas and intensity of emotion by the use of rhythm and distinct styles. These characteristics of poetry make it unique and hard to decipher at the same time. Poetry is something beautiful but hard to get just like a princess guarded in a castle.
When I was in my high school years, I like reading poems and I could easily write one. Though there was an allotted time to make poems during examinations, it was easy for me to compose since I expose myself in poems back then. But that habit was gone as years passed by and during college years, I had a difficulty understanding poems. I realized that poetry is not just a one term subject to learn but a part of literature that needs to be loved and comes in naturally as inhaling and exhaling. Poetry made me realized that poems are not simple text, it has deeper meaning and needs to be read a lot of times to have its true meaning.
Poetry has a big impact in my life. It had thought me that poetry is not just texts printed on a scented paper to have value and receive a high grade. Thus, it made me realize that poetry is special and important like vocal cords that is being used to say what you want to say, like eyes to see what you want to see, like feet that enables you to move and travel free, like skin to feel the touch and heart to feel the emotions sense of life. Poetry also serves as an entertainment, an extension of my unsaid emotions, and medicine of heartaches. Simply, poetry is a comfort to me when no one does.

Basically literature is defined as the collection of written works of language through different periods and different cultures by authors and scholars. It connects the society and the people, it serves as the way how to express feelings and emotions through writing and reading. It is like a mirror that reflects on what is happening in the society, it makes people more knowledgeable and aware in their surroundings, it can lessen stress and it creates a way for people to record their own thoughts and experiences. Literature can change someone’s perspective in a way that it gives insights and inspirations in life that may help people in their decision making. Also, through reading it can widen your vocabulary and it can take us into different places. Without literature, life is meaningless because lack of exposure to literature is equal to depriving oneself from the opportunity to grow.
Literature is already embedded within us, every day we become a better person because we are able to express our complaints without coercions. Literature greatly influence me in a way how I should understand life, it helps me to be cognizant in the society, develops my skills in writing and widens my vocabulary. Poetry teaches me to think beyond on its literal sense and how to put emphasis of emotion which is presented in the poem, I understand that not all poems defines beauty because sometimes poems can be anti-poetic, sometimes it defines flaws. Literature is the best way to indulge myself from stress because some of its pieces are entertaining, it is not a waste of time. Writing my own poems helps me to express my sorrows, whines and my happiness. It helps me to become self-assured and it lessens my anxieties. Literature may come into many different forms but what makes it identical is that it provides meaningful insights to its readers, it does not requires people to spend money, only time. Also, literature is a good way to store our good or bad experiences through writing journals or diaries, it can be a secret keeper when you do not want your feelings to be exposed.
Consequently, there are several reasons why literature plays a vital role in life because even if life is full of complexities, literature will guide us into another perspective in life. Basically, literature gives life to all living. Poetry is an art that uses unique words to appeal emotions to the readers. For me, literature influences my personality because the way I act and think is basically an influence of the learnings and insights which I get from my readings. Life without literature is meaningless, dull and boring. Literature is meant to express beauty and defects of all living.

"Literature lies in the fact that it exists in many form, it can be both in written and oral," that is according to Kafimbwa. Literature has affected my life since it represents the culture and traditions of other people. Through literature, it enlightened my mind that there are many cultures and traditions in which different from mine. It changed the way I adjust with other culture. Literature has affected the way I perceived things just like how to respect other beliefs. Literature also enhanced my knowledge on adapting some changes that happen and it gave me an opportunity to adapt for the future changes. Literature also reflects society in which it shows political aspect in the place I live as part of the society, that happen in the past, now and for the future changes. Literature also changed the way I think through imagining things.

In terms of poetry, through poems, there are aspects in my life that has been changed like thinking outside the box if what is the deep meaning by that I applied it in my life the way I cope up with my challenges. It also changed the way I dwell with the world which is full of unexpected things. That is why I can say that poetry has affected my life because there are changes that happen. Through reading poems again and again, my understanding towards the literary piece has improved.
For this reasons, literature and poetry has affected my life because it creates changes. It both had an influenced if what I am now.

POETRY FOR ME
Well, most people say that, reading is something fun. I guess it is only to those who are interested at it. Of course, to those who did not engage at it, they will never get affected.
In particular, as a student who loves reading poems, poetry affects me in some good ways. For one, it enables me to widen my vocabulary. Because most of the poems contains unfamiliar words, especially poems written by Shakespeare and many others. Also, some poems introduces me to different places with different culture and history, so this allows me to gain more knowledge through it. Notably, some poems are historical. Correspondingly, I am now able to express myself through writing poems. In which, I think, will help me enhance my writing ability.
Moreover, poetry made me realize some things in life. First, poetry taught me that, things are meant to be analyzed and to be understood and should be seen in a wider picture. Given the fact that poems should be analyzed carefully to understand it very well. Second, I have learned that I should be vigilant enough at all times, because poems contains a lot of symbols, which is very useful. Being vigilant can be very useful in our daily lives. Through poetry, I have also learn that in life, some things just don't rhyme but it doesn't mean it is not beautiful and meaningful. In fact, poems vary in different forms, some of it rhymes and some don't. Lastly, poetry taught me that in life, things comes in different shapes, just like how poets divide their poems. So to wrap things up, I became a better person.
In general, poetry permits my creativity grow healthily. Also, it adds color in my life, as what is defined in the dictionary, poetry is something that is very beautiful or graceful. To those who involve their selves to it, will be able to see the beauty it brings.

According to William Wordsworth, “Poetry is a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.” Poetry is a form of art, it is a one place where people can speak or express their feelings and thoughts.
Way back in high school writing poems is one of my weaknesses because when I read poems, I am having a hard time on understanding its deeper meaning and when it is my time to write, I hesitate because I find my poem very bad. Poetry has affected me in many ways not just as an Ab-English student but as a human being. Poetry changes my perception in the way I look life. Poetry is a literary work given to the expression of feelings with emotional sincerity. It is a great beauty, a piece of art coming from the heart. According to Burnside (2017) that poetry is central to our culture, and that is capable of being the most powerful and transformative of the arts. Poems that expresses the beauty of life, deep feelings and thoughts hidden inside. It gives a wonderful imagination and comfort to the readers. Poetry is something that touches the soul of a person that brings healing to a wounded heart.

Poetry impart a big role in my life. I learn to appreciate poetry when I discover the beauty it brings to my life. Poetry affect my life in the sense that it helped me to love the things I didn’t want to do before. It inspires me to write and share the deep feelings hidden inside. It does not only influence my learning in writing poetry, but also it affects my perspective in life. It thought me to be disciplined in a way that I wanted to improve my skills in writing and reading. Hearing different poems with deep meanings stirs the hidden desire of my heart, that someday I’ll be touching lives. It led me to express myself more and to appreciate small things in life. Poetry is a way freedom wherein it helped a person to release the emotions inside the heart.

Learning poetry is a great help for me as an English student, because it teaches me lessons that can be applied in writing and analyzing poems. Through it also, it helped me to be creative in the different aspects of writing a poem.

Poetry, lofty thought or impassioned feeling expressed in imaginative words (Dictionary.com). For someone who is fond of reading and writing poetry, it is a literary work that greatly manifests emotional and profound insights. We all have different views in appreciating literature, specifically in poetry. Some may find poetry as a complicated thing to read and few may consider it as a powerful thought to ponder. Personally, poetry has already placed a special spot in my life wherein it becomes a part in honing an aspiring poet within me.

During my childhood days, whenever my mother told me to keep on reading any books to practice my reading speed, I always frown and mumble to express my inept disgust. I found it very tiresome to read and difficult to comprehend since I was still a child. Yet, growing up, I have developed certain interest in reading books with catchy stories and I was then able to visualize abstract ideas that stirred my imagination. I am not really fond of reading poetry before because I find them intricate and profound, in the sense that it somehow needs thorough analysis. Well, reading stories or novels also has profundity similar to poetry, and I cannot distinguish the reason why I have less interest in reading the latter before. Ironically, in the present time, poetry has already been a part of me. It grew unconsciously in my being. All of a sudden I found it relaxing. I found myself reading different kind of poems and dotingly appreciated them. I am the kind of reader who does not have a specific icon in poetry because everything for me seems to come randomly. I deeply admire every poet I have read for their own style and genre in writing poetry. They all served as an epitome for me as an aspiring poet. I have learned to develop my passion and learned to have my skill in writing poetry for my own. It seems to me that every piece of poetry I read reflects certain relevance in my existence. Poetry became my breather and it became an outlet for me. Moreover, poetry does not only enable me to express my own feelings and thoughts but also it allows me to discover my capabilities in relating and putting myself in the other perspective.

Hence, though it sounds cliché, poetry plays a vital role in my life. It may always entail melancholic sensations and vivid feelings of nostalgia, poetry will always be unique to someone who regarded and crafted it with distinct appreciation. Thus, in the same way with how poetry has unexpectedly affected my being as a sole individual.

In every aspect of human life, poetry is present. Poetry affects everything. From the way we speak, walk, eat, cry, laugh, everything. Poetry is everywhere. Poetry is imbedded within us from the moment we are created. Poetry is running through the cascading flow of blood within our soul. Poetry is life.

Poetry greatly affects my life. From the day I was born, I believe I was made with poetry. From the moment my parents met each other, it's already poetry. Even as I grow up, poetry is always there. It will always be there. Poetry is always there behind every success, sacrifices, laughs, smiles, pains and regrets in my life.

Poetry does not just mean being able to write nerve racking lines every stanzas, reading poems, novels, and short stories with all the head turning and eye catching gestures and tones. However, poetry is all about how you grasp every lesson, every thought of every words and how you instill everything as you live your life. It is because without poetry there will never be thrill and excitement.

Poetry affects my life not because it is already imbedded within me, but because I recognize it's worth, I recognize how poetry change me as to how I look at life. Poetry helps me realize and understand how difficult and at the same time exciting life is. Poetry helps me do things beyond my capabilities. It helps me climb the highest mountain, cross the widest ocean and reach the highest stars. Poetry helps me conquer the toughest life.

In this life, poetry will make us live behind every dying moment and through the power of words, everything will change, may it be positive or negative. However, it will always depend on us on how we perceive poetry and apply it in our life.

In my case, I really value poetry as part of my everyday life. Being a member of word'sworth organization makes it more in depth and realistic. My ability to write spoken poetry pieces proves that I value poetry. In this manner, I think I could say that poetry has a great influence in my own personal life. Through poetry, I was able to express my self in way that I could also influence others. Through my pieces, I could touch people's hearts and in one way or another, we could have a sense of connection that flows within the same emotions and interests. By that, I could then create ties that let every feelings and emotions come out.

Generally, poetry is indeed a powerful thing that lets every impossible be possible. Through poetry, we could transform everything into something we desired it to be. Through poetry, we could have the power to shape the world as to what we wanna be. Poetry has the ability to influence everything.

Pan’s Labyrinth Movie Review
Pan’s Labyrinth is a 2006 fantasy film from the creative imagination of a Mexican director Guillermo del Toro. I personally watched the movie and I saw how creative and impressive it was. It was truly an inspiring movie picturing a little girl who have chosen to sacrifice her own life for the sake of an innocent child which was her own brother.
It was in year 1944 in Spain. The movie was all about a young girl named Ofelia. She loves reading and she believes in fairytales and magic. One time, on their journey to Captain Vidal’s place, she saw a strange insect. To her, it seems like a fairy to her and so it then became a tiny little man which led her to the labyrinth where a faun lived. As for me, I cannot say that the faun is trustworthy at first but soon enough I realized that it was all part of his role. It was on the part where he gave her a mandrake root to hide underneath her mother’s bed and feed it by two drops of blood in order to remove Ofelia’s worries about her pregnant mother.
Also the movie as a whole is visually impressive. The creatures look terrifying. At first, the faun does not look good. His figure is quite scary. Also the way he speaks and the way he moves. Another is the giant frog that contains the key who vomited its entire body leaving its skin behind. It’s kind of unpleasant. Also, the Pale Man. He is just a scary man sitting on a chair but when Ofelia was tempted to eat the food that is supposed not to be eaten. The eyeballs of the man are on the plate and he is the most hideous creature because of how he took his eyeballs and put it on the palms of his hand. It’s kind of unique and new.
On the last part, Ofelia died in the mortal world but she lived and eventually came back to her parents and became “Princess Moanna”. She lived and ruled the kingdom with great honor and justice.
As a whole, the movie is indeed mysterious and it’s full of fantasies. It also shows bravery, kindness and the willingness to sacrifice one’s life for the sake of others which is indeed a form of love.

Movie review of the film " Pan's Labyrinth"
The film "Pan's Labyrinth" took shape in the imagination of Guillermo Del Toro as long as 1993 which won an Oscar award. This film was one of the greatest of all fantasy featuring the comparison of fantasy and reality. The story happened on 1994 in Spain where a troop of soldiers were sent to a remote district to hunt down the rebels. A girl named Ofelia, daughter of Carmen who was the new wife of Captain Vidal who led the soldiers fighting the rebels, has the ability to see supernatural beings and was believed to be "Princess Moanna", daughter of the King of underworld. The story was about the perseverance of Ofelia to open the portal to the other world and how dangerous it was especially that she had a sadist stepfather who only valued her mother for breeding purposes. She was given three task by a faun which will test her as a princess of the underworld. Ofelia has to finish the task before full moon. Therefore, while a war was happening in the real world, Ofelia was venturing into the fantasy world by following the instruction in the book that the faun had given her. Throughout the story, Ofelia lived in between reality and fantasy in where both imposed a killing trip to her. Pan's Labyrinth also had a stunning effect from its cinematography up to its fantasy creatures which actually look real in the movie such as the frog, the faun and the horrible pale man whose skins hanged in folds from his unwholesome body. It also shows a mixture between fantasy and reality with regards to cruelty that surrounded Ofelia in the story. The existence of these two worlds can both impose danger to her. But the whole movie depends on the choices that Ofelia made for she is a girl who needs to disobey anything except her own soul.

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, poetry is something that is very beautiful or graceful. If poetry is defined this way, then every poet must have had wanted to make their poems as eloquent as it can be. Poetry might be a gift to everyone but eloquence is honed through experience and eagerness to improved it.

Since poetry is mostly influence by our emotions, however we wish to dress our words or how we want to use words will always reveal our intentions and feelings. These things gives us the power to create our own poetry. In poetry, we don't necessarily follow certain meters, structures and any technical terms in making our poems. We can choose however we create our poems. For me,I like how I can express my thoughts in poetry. Before,I used to write in a meter and five lines per stanza but my thoughts seem to become disorganized and limits the words I wanted to write. So, when I started knowing the poetry mads by Lang Leav, I started to change mine.I adapted the free verse and find it easier to write poems. It made writing poems so much fun. I later on discovered that using simple yet exact words makes my poems alive, like the words wanted to be freed from the paper or by simply expressing myself through poetry, some of my burdens lifted up and become a history on a paper. Either which way, poetry has indulge me of ways to play with words.

As an English major, poetry affected a lot in my life. It is an effective way of improving my grammar and enhancing my vocabulary. It also became an outlet to vent out my feelings, writing the words I cannot easily say or I never had an intention to say has found its way into words written on paper. The good thing about poetry is that it helps me express myself without revealing everything. It helps me create an art in which it can be interpreted in many ways but only I can remember the exact ideas I had in mind when I was writing it.

Poetry is one of the form of literature where word choice is important because through these it can build the interests and mood of the readers. However, for me poetry is the hardest form of literature because it needs a wide and deep understanding, but aside from being a form of literature, poetry also affects me as an individual especially as a student of poetry. Through these, it helps me to somehow lessen the degree of its difficulties because it makes me see the good side of it which is being a room for expressing what I feel. In this, no judgement can interrupt me because paper is my only audience. I am free to say my thoughts. Also poetry practiced my used of figurative language which I can used in my field.

Pan’s Labyrinth
(A Movie Review)

Another must watch fantasy film with a twist of historical post-Civil War happened in Spain, 1944. The movie set an adventure atmosphere with a transition of a back and forth going of places between different worlds of reality and of the fantasy world where the main character, Ofelia is taking risk.

The movie’s characters portray the different roles in an archetypal type of notion. The main character, Ofelia who is the protagonist and the innocent, lover, and explorer; the Faun, who is a magician and sage type of character; Captain Vidal, the cruel and antagonist character in the movie; Mercedes, the sage and caregiver type of character; and Carmen, the loving mother of Ofelia.

All throughout the movie the characters evolve in a structure of “Love + Sacrifice = Freedom”. First is Mercedes, who is a loving sister to her brother; one of the rebel that she even sacrifices her safety in providing the needs of other rebel for their main aim of freedom against the unjust ruling of the cruel, Captain Vidal. Second, is the love of Ofelia for her family and her love for fantasy; fairytales that she sacrificed her mortal life, went to adventures in a belief of freedom from the cruel world she is in. Last, Captain Vidal, amidst his cruelty and unjust way of serving his people; he sacrificed his reputation for the love of his son; he believed that his son must be born in a cleansed place in Spain.

Overall, it is a timeless movie. A film that combines fantasy and reality. A taste of history was also dealt, but the indispensable theme of the movie that cannot be dispute
is the love for the family; be it a mother, a father, a daughter, a sister, or even a cruel leader will sacrifice for his son.

He was born on a year 1964.He is the Mexican director, who wins his Oscar-winning cinematographer and also he is an art director and makeup people. This director is the most challenging of directors in the fantasy field because he invents from scratch, or adapts into his own. This story seems to be a dream or fantasy but it was firmly connected in the reality of war. The fauns and fairies were seen by the eleven year old girl. The movie tracks the two scariest elements of the film, which the two worlds exist.
Sergi Lopez (Capitan Vidal) a sadist under cover as a rigid military man. He plays records on his phonograph, smokes, drinks, shaves as if tempting himself to slash his throat, he speak harshly to his wife and threatens the doctors and shoots people. He Commandeer the gloomy old mill as his headquarters.
Ariadna Gil( Carmen) the new wife of Capitan Vidal, who is pregnant, and a mother of Ofelia.Ivana Baquero (Ofelia) the girl who hates her step father, she values Carmen only for breeding purposes.Maribel Verdu( Mercedes) she is the chiefs servant. Doug Jones (Faun) he is the faun that task Ofelia to accomplish three task.
The eleven year old Ofelia and her mother Carmen, as they travel to his step father place. Ofelia’s mind wanders and she even thinks that a bug is a fairy. When she arrived the place he met her step dad who was busy fighting the rebels. She also met Mercedes where she found out that she take care the rebels. In the middle of the night the insects becomes much more fairy like that leads Ofelia to the labyrinth. She was greeted by a very filthy faun, that tells her that she was the princess of legend, and she must complete the three task before the full moon for her to return to her place where in her home.
Her first task is to feed three magic stones to the giant, who lives in the ancient fig tree. Then luckily she accomplishes the task. The faun helps her mother to feel okay because she was bleeding. The second task of Ofelia, she enters into a room with a freaky man has long nails and no eyes. She chows the grape that cause her awaken the monster, where she nearly caught by its hands. The faun gets mad about eating those forbidden food. When the mandrake throws into the fireplace, Carmen begins to a dangerous labor, which cost her, her life. The baby was save and okay, but it was not getting better around the place. Vidal tries to torture Mercedes but in return she was stabbed. Ofelia runs into the labyrinth carrying his brother, the faun ask her to hand her baby brother to spill the blood into his pool. Nevertheless she was still a good sister she doesn’t want to hand her baby bro. Vidal took his son and shoot Ofelia, whose bloods drips into the pool that opens the passage to the underworld. Ofelia awakes unharmed, she saw her real parents who seated in the throne where the one place is empty, and it was supposed to be her place. Ofelia was happy that finally she was home.
This movie is scary perhaps, but it was interesting and thrilling movie, where you couldn’t predict what next. This story really scared children which it shows bloodiest killing.

According to Gulf News, literature has "shaped civilizations, changed political systems and exposed injustice." Literature affects people by teaching, entertaining, and inspiring to take actions in life. It affects people by offering a way to express one’s self through writing and reading. All literature helps people expand their minds. Some literature inspires emotion. Love poems, for example, are a timeless way for people to express romantic, platonic, maternal and other forms of love. It sparks empathy for it is capable of being the most powerful and transformative of the arts.
I admit I suck at writing poems, essays, journals, etc. that is why I am kind of apprehensive towards it. But when I took up Creative Writing, I learned how to express myself through writing and it lessens my fear of my output being evaluated or criticized. And as I took up more literature classes I learned to love poetry even more. I learned to reflect on other different things. It does not only give pleasure but also imparts wisdom. And it changed my life because it gave me a new perspective on my life and the lives of others. It made me see life in a more imaginative, colorful, and artistic way. Poetry makes me think and opens me up to the wonder and the astonishing possibilities of language.

Poetry is an expression of yourself when you want to express something that cannot be express easily to other people. It is an act of self-expression. Where it's only you and the paper and pen. Reading poetry is like giving me an opportunity to read someone's mind and being able to understand their feeling even without talking to them or knowing them personally. Poems let me know how someone feels and how they take stock of thier feelings. There are some lines on the poem that I could relate and it feels like it's written for me or it was my own piece of work because it is what exactly the words I wanted to express. Poetry is like an escape. A travel from your current situation to a place where you fantasy. It also give me ideas on how to write one. Also it gives me entertainment, during my leisure time I read poems, it's doesn't feel to deep but each line, there is a certain feeling of breeziness to the entire experience.

One thing I learned about poetry is that it's better to write your secrets or feelings than sharing them to others and get nothing.

Pan’s Labyrinth: A Movie Review

Released in 2006, Pan’s Labyrinth amazed the audience with its unique and fascinating storyline wherein there is a combination of both fantasy and reality. An impressive and profound Spanish dark fantasy film, written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, exploits an interesting topics of mythical creatures likes fairies and fauns and uncovers the reality of Spanish war during the Franco-dictatorship (Spelling, 2006). It is one of the impressive fantasy films of all times because of its compelling storyline, rich mythological setting and impressive cinematography.
Pan’s Labyrinth has a unique and compelling storyline that makes it stand out from the other fantasy movies. What makes the storyline unique and compelling is it did a great job in mixing real life events (the Spanish war) with a little girl’s mythical world of fairies and fauns. The movie happens in the mountain of Spain at the military camp. Ofelia, a young girl who loves reading fairy tales, travels with her pregnant mother to a military camp to meet his stepfather, a cruel captain of the Spanish army. When she reaches the place, she sees an old and abandoned labyrinth and meets a flaun that tells her that she is the princess of the underworld. The flaun will help her to go back to the underworld if she can complete three challenging tasks. In her quest to fulfil the three task, she encounters different mythical creatures and experiences the cruelty of war.
Pan’s Labyrinth has an impressive cinematography that makes it unique from the other fantasy movies. In which, the other fantasy movies uses bright and soft colors however, in Pan’s Labyrinth, it uses dark bluish colors to create a dark mythological world of mythical creatures which is rare in a fantasy movie. Also, the movie’s camera angles and different camera shots such us close shot, bird eye shot, side shot etc. are incredible.
Indeed, Pan’s Labyrinth is one of the impressive fantasy films of all times because of its compelling storyline, rich mythological setting and impressive cinematography. This movie combines both fantasy and real world. It’s one of the movies that is worth watching for.

Reading literature is giving you a good what to understand the nature of past and helps to understand what life was like. in psychologically speaking, poetry affect the observable manifestation of personal experienced of emotion in this sense of consciously crafted dramatization using subjective emotion as a source material.
According to Calvin Bedient argues that the poets are increasingly suspicious of conventionally lyrical expression and that more and more poets are devoting themselves to methods that involved emotional distancing. at this point poetry affects our thoughts and our feeling because in poetry must activate on expressing feeling. And by expressing feeling some of the people become more open to new ideas, new point of views from different people, though some are not highly skilled in terms of literature particularly in poetry but in this case, it doesn't mean that literature not affects in their life because even you are not good on that practiced, literature and poetry can chance you a little in the since of being conscious because in poetry even they cant understand well but their mind become aware and able to understand. literature can make people chance of their behavior as well, after they read some stories, poems, and novel people chance their action mostly in writing and reading.
Consequently, literature particular in poetry effects of the behavior of person. not totally changes but some mode is really affects on the person's life because of what they have read that produce in literature for the society. We cant see of what personality they really change but in the inner performance people progress the dexterity they have because of literature.

As an AB English student literature played a big role in me wherein it is my major and poetry is been a part of it. I apparently taking Understanding Poetry for this semester and for the half of the semester my knowledge through poetry is slowly creating by the poems we used to discuss over the class. Unlike of what I've experienced during my high school our English teacher gave a poem where we need to find the elements of poetry on the said poem and it is quite hard because the poem is somehow hard to understand at first it is hard but when I'm learning to do it most of the time I can say that poetry is fun you can express your hidden expressions and it somehow helps you to move forward when suddenly you feel that the world is dragging you down. Engaging through literature is a way where we can definitely find those things in life that we wanted to hunt. literature is wide and has many branches. Poetry is been affect in me because I somehow creating poems and it helps me to do better than before.
