Don't Quit

Last night, February 17, 2011, my POetry Class had their Poetry Night here in our home. Xanthi had listened to them as they read they own poems. They had fun listening as they exchange ears for each other's poem, and what makes me so g;ad is the fact that they had appreciated the class even if it had given them a lot of requirements. I am so happy as i have seen happiness light in their eyes as they share theiur own poems. Even my household had fun listening to their bio poems, their narrative poems and the poems of known Filipino and British poets. It was a night of camaraderie and poetry indeed.

with this, i am sharing to you one of my personal favorite poems. It was known who wrote it though sadly some are claiming it to be theirs. Anyhow, let me share to your his inspiring poem and i hope it would have the same effect to you as it did to me.

Don't Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

hi ma'am...! thanks for being you...thanks for the pressure...hehehe...for that really helps us a lot.. thank you also for the extensions and more extensions to come...thank you so much ma'am.. :-)
here are my poems ma'am which you asked to post:

a triolet about Tinago falls:

400 STEPS

Four hundred steps,
A paradise within
Excitement leaps,
Four hundred steps.
Nature keeps
Away from sin,
Four hundred steps,
A paradise within.

Italian Sonnet about Initao:

MYSTERIOUS

Before and after,
Horror and beauty,
Myth and reality.
Forget the fear,
More to hear.
Cure the insanity,
Love nature's creativity,
Now and forever
Sea and waves,
Caves and stones,
Trees and leaves,
Chill the bones.
See and don't be hasty
Enjoy the mystery.

Narrative Poem:

LAAG UG ANG NAKAPLAG

Gailog pa ang kahayag sa adlaw ug bulan
Kami migikan na sa Musuan
Bisan tood ug ga ulan- ulan
Padayon lang gihapon sa pagdagan

Ang bus pirting goota
Hasta na noong gin- ota
Apan kami wala mataranta
Sa among mga banko ga kanta- kanta

Sa El Salvador
Una mi nag tour
Divine Mercy Shrine
Grabe ang pagka shine
First time nako didto
Pero napa wow jud ko
Tsada kaayong mga adorno
Palibot sa dakong rebulto.

Sunod namomg gihunongan
Lugar nga murag kalasangan
Daghan kaayo kag kahinaman
Mga gasa sa kinaiyahan.
Gitoohan nga lugar sa mga wakwak
Apan kami wala nagpalibak
Sa dagat ug langub mi nga lingaw- lingaw
Didto sa lugar nga gitawag nilag Initao

Ug sa dihang naa nami sa Iligan,
Nanglingi ang mga tawo sa kadaplinan
Nahibulong sa gapanon nga sakyanan
Nga gikan sakabukiran.

Ma. Cristina Falla ang destinasyon
Naa pay gard nga murag sapoton
Pero bisag sa ganghaan natanggong
Sulit ang panan awong gaagligdong
Ang tubig astang suloga
Ang busay astang taasa
Kung wala kadto nga gasa
Kuryente pirting mahala.

Paghuman sa busay
SA bus mibalik ug sakay
Lahos dayon sa Timoga
Aron mawala ang ka duka.
Salom didto, dalom diri,
Tisngi didto, tisngi diri
Kalipay nga dili kabayran
Kauban sa mga kahigalaan.

Apan pagbati ug kagutom
Wala tawon mi magdahom
Kamahal sa palaliton
bisan na lamang ang kan on.
Ning adto mi sa centro
Walo mi sa grupo
Bitbit among mga bagahe
Mura mig gipalayas nga aplikante.
Nangita mig mkan an
Nga sulti sa tiyan
Paghuman sa lapangan
Dritso sa katulganan.

SAkay sa sikad
Crystal Inn and palad
Pagkakita sa amoa
Gi-welcome jud mig pina bongga.
Grabe jud among hinanok
Sa mga habol ga ok-ok
Pagkabuntag namahaw
Itlog ug bangus ang gipatilaw.

Sa andam na ang tanan
Tinago amao ng giadtoan
Excited na kaayong mga taga- Musuan
Nga motan aw sa ginatagoan.
Tood manpaga nindot
Ang Ginoo wala jud mag inot
Ka tsada sa palibot
Matag minuto gidaginot.
Apan didto mi ngaluya
SA hagdan nga pirting taasa
Pirti kaayong pungaha
Ang mga ilong ga siga-siga.

Human sa adventure
Didto mi sa mansion galore
Ang balay ni Gloria
Astang pagka sosyala.

Human didto,
Dali- dali kaming miadto
Pabalik sa centro
Aron maminaw sa usa ka maestro.
Si Sir Tibo Fernandez
Doctor siya sa Humanities
Maalamon kaayo nga tawo
Bow jud kaayo ko
Dagan kaayo siyag gidalit
Dli man unta siya poet
Naay pay taga IPAG
Nga grabe makapangalampag.

Mihawa mi sa IIT
NGa dgahan kaagi
Labaw pa sa laag
Kaalam ang nakaplag.

Goodbye Iligan
Welcome Cagayan
Hapit sah mi sa shopinganan
Aron naay handomanan.

Mibiya mi nga malinawon
Sa sulod sa bus nanihapon
Naay ga kanta-kanta
Samtang ang uban natulog nga ga nganga

Alas- dose sa kagabhion
Ang CMU amoa ng galantawon
Pagkanao sa bus
Iya- iya na ug tipas.

KINABUHING TULA

Ruth
Rebellious,Understanding,Thoughtful,Happy
Daughter of Peter and Inday Roble
Lover of food, nature and family
Who feels excited when it's time to go home, panicked when the son is sick, so happy when the son gives a hug and a kiss
Who gives love, care and friendship
Who needs you, them and everybody
Who fears without God, without nothing to fear and without nothing to eat
Who would like to see the mythical octopus in Tinago, James Bond and the white lady in Balete Drive
Who lives in the land of organic rice, Brgy. Tongantongan; situuted in the City of Golden Harvest, Valencia City; located at the town of beautiful faces, Bukidnon

Maam Shai thanks for the pressure-pleasure. It's been a while im out in the pressure cooker but now i found myself inside it :p

Well, i love the feeling for it give us a sense of purpose. Thanks again =)
Here's my poem:

Tinago falls

Falling water of crystal clear
You’re so fair and oh so lovely!
You ease the worries that I bear.
Falling water of crystal clear
In difficulty I climb your stairs
But your sight made me want to stay willingly.
Falling water of crystal clear
You’re so fair and oh so lovely!

Initao

Although she took me in caves
In seemed unending crawling in the dark
That I thought no one can save
Still I’d like to see your park.
My shoes were wet by her waves
She knocked my head with falling barks
And long walk in dirty road she gave
But no bitterness in my face was marked.
For I stand in your woods in pure delight
Trees so tall and some already a century old!
Making paradise in my sight,
Of nature’s beauty so gloomily bright
A priceless treasure that time unfold
Oh, Initao Nature Park you are the nature’s gold!

Christine
Selective, content, happy and restive
Sibling of five girls and five boys
Lover of equality, boundary and open-mindedness
Who feels love and being loved by Henry
And yet misjudged by many
Who needs self fulfilment through personal effort,
Real and loyal friends and a loving family
Who gives help, understanding and advice to those who needed it
Who fears Physics, Chemistry and Math classes
Who would like to see myself accomplished academically,
My family in happy state and that we uphold spirituality
A resident of Bliss, Mimbalot, Buru-on, Iligan City

Unang naadtuan El Salvador Shrine
“We are in Holy Land!” ingon sila
Dagkot og kandila, hangad sa estatuwa
“Picture-picture!” posing dayon sila.

Sunod giadtuan Initao Cave
Itsa’g peso, your love will come true
Sulod sa langob samtang hugot nga nag-ampo
“Lord, unta walay mangutot.”

Dayon nangadto me’g Maria Cristina Falls
Nanimaho me’g ihi sa kwaknit sa entrada
Pero sa unahan kaanyag nga hilabihan
Ang kanindot sa view dili matupngan.

Para makahugas og maka-relax
Adto me’g Timoga swimming pools
Sa katugnaw mangluspad ka
Sa kalingaw pamaulan ka.
Tungod sa mga gwapo paduding gamay
Lakaw didto dayon kiay-kiay
Kunuhay maayo mulangoy, nagdinakpanay
Si Edmund, si Ruel og si Fe
Si Radjan, ako og Jessie.

Walo me kabuok nga nangadto’g syudad
Si Kenneth nga mag-meet sa uyab,
Ako sa akong mga manghod
Og ang uban nga nagsunod-sunod.
Kaming Josille, Cid og Kenneth
Sa Inasal namalit.
Si Ruth, Jane, Kyrie og Joyce
Nag- Jollibee para naay poise.

Then sakay me’g sikad going to Crystal Inn
At long last, tulog time is in!

Pagkaugma adto me’g Tinago Falls
Matod pang Kim, “Its beauty cannot be captured in pictures”
Bahala’g hangak adtuon
Grabe ang view, halandumon!

Gisundan dayon sa Ancestral House of Gloria
Among nakita pictures sa iyang pagkabata og pagkadalaga
Gwapa man diay siya, no?
Nag-explore me sa sulod
Ug akong narealized, mas gwapa jud ang balay kumpara sa iya.

Seminar na ni Sir Fernandez
Ang lesson Transcreation of Poetry and Humanities
Og ang ‘di jud nako malimtan
Ang Southern Cross about sa bayot nga nag-antos
Ang Pambambo ko tusok-tusok
Para sa mga lalaki, ika nga mapupusok.

Karon, it’s time to say good bye
Ni usa sa amoa ‘di jud makamahay.
Sa kanindot sa syudad sa Iligan
The trip is really worthwhile.
